Flores de Praga, a ladies saloon chamber orchestra, continues a historical tradition which roots reach the nineteen century - the period of Johann Strauss II, Franz Lehar, Rudolf Friml and many other great composers. In those times, saloon music was played solely in the saloon, whereas festive music was performed at the balls. Today, Flores de Praga is trying to bring this wide music heritage into the concert halls.
Viennese ball waltzes, festive polkas, well-known melodies from operas, operettas, films and later from musicals, they all bask in adulation with many generations of listeners. On the repertoire of the ensemble, we can find folk music of various nations, Latin America dances, swing, jazz as well as music by renaissance, baroque and classicist masters.
Flores
de Praga, a professional chamber orchestra was
founded in 1994. The
ensemble was preparing to perform together and getting co-ordinated
for some years. At present, it is an orchestra of a unique
instrumental setting: two violins, viola, violoncello,
double-base, flute, piano and percussion. All members graduated from
academies of music.
